if my house was burning

i told you i'd post my submission to the burning house if it made it up onto the site. click over to look at my list.

an afternoon with rebecca

i've had an afternoon with... in my "to blog" folder for awhile and this morning rebecca robertson's home just spoke to me. what a perfect combination of simple + eclectic. even with the great patterns and pops of color her home still looks clean and organized. well no wonder! naturally, she's the decorating editor at martha stewart living.

all the buildings in new york

it's my birthday today! i took the day off and have been relaxing with coffee and yesterday's crossword. i demanded birthday donuts for breakfast. later i'm going to lunch + pedi with a friend, then try to sneak in my favorite thing to do: thrifting! dinner out with my man tonight, too. hooray!

i've wanted to post about james guliver hancock's all the buildings in new york project for awhile. love his illustrations, especially on the wood panels. what an undertaking! check out his portfolio, too.

set sail

i'm completely enamored with this vintage pop-up card abbey found at the farmhouse she and her family are renovating. isn't it charming?

"may your ship come in laden with the best things in life and may you always be sitting on top of the world."

she's posted about lovely old photographs she found, too.

riding high

happy tuesday, folks! i'm riding high after a great long weekend in los angeles. my best friend's brother flew me out as a surprise for her birthday! we had awesome food and a party at a fancy malibu beach house. i had so much fun, it's hard to get back to reality. how was your weekend?

cute paper mobiles and wall art from gosh & golly.

what matters most

chris adamiak

have you heard of the project called the burning house? people from around the world submit a photo of their answer to one question: if your house was burning, what would you take with you? i love how each photo is literally a snapshot of each person's life and priorities.

i submitted a photo yesterday - i'll let you know if it gets posted. i have to say walking around my house, taking inventory of all my stuff, was a sobering experience.  i wouldn't need much of anything. of course there were a handful of items i'd be crushed if i never saw again, but all in all things can be replaced. i highly recommend this exercise: physically taking what you would need and putting them together in a pile. what would you grab? you might find you're more practical rather than sentimental or vice versa.

here are some of my favorite submissions to the burning house:

jennifer maree rouse
