holiday prep
first day of october tomorrow and i'm looking forward to our first halloween in our new house! thought it would be fun to do it up for trick or treaters this year so i'm trolling martha stewart for ideas. lots of pumpkin carving options to browse through.
field notes throwbacks
i was scoping out the awesomeness that is field notes and came across their vintage memo books archive. the magic of a little notebook in your bag can't be beat.

installment two
i'd like to welcome lauren from the very inspiring color collective to provide our second installment of in the bag, where fellow creatives share the contents of their satchels and what they are toting around day to day.
thank you for sharing lauren - much obliged!
"I bought my bag (Style & Co.) last year at Macy’s on sale, and have been wearing it pretty much everyday since. It’s small and matches almost everything I wear. Then, it’s all about the basics for me…I have OCD tendencies and I don’t like clutter! So, I pack up my keys, my wallet (Nordstrom Rack), my cute little USB (Urban Outfitters) and my phone, after that I’m ready to go!"
pinkshirtsandcarwrecks on etsy
not that you care, but i've made the pinkshirtsandcarwrecks vintage shop easier to navigate by categorizing items. hopefully it will be less overwhelming for you if you are interested in shopping for just housewares or toys and games or fun souvenirs. go on over and take a look!
my hero, dave eggers, has done it again. drawings of animals and "what that animal might be thinking — if that animal had an antagonistic relationship with humans and was vying with those humans for the favor of a catholic god."
'nuff said.

everything in its proper place
virgo that i am, i love (and identify) with things organized neatly, a great tumblr where everything is orderly. if you're ever feeling a little overwhelmed, pop over there and you'll calm down knowing everything is in order.
would like to take a trip
wish i was in san fran to see this installation christopher bettig did for the new "hello by candystore," candystore collective's new second location. great inspiration to do something like this in your own home (amazing built-in bookshelf, perhaps?)
workin' hard for the money
great little rockaway taco docu-short film thing by the selby crew in my inbox this morning. these guys have a little slice of heaven for the summer making good food for the masses, surfing, bee hives on the roof. the corner is cobbled together with like-minded folks: fresh veggies, a coffee bar, italian ice, taco shop and surf shop with the beach right there. what a dream. more photos here.

classic penguin classics
lovely images of classic penguin paperbacks via the etsy storque blog. a stack or shelf of these would be charming in any room, really. love the styling in the first photo with the toast server.
good morning monday!
i like today: fungi of all types! fungi print by the amazing groundwork, ashley g lets you print your own cards, sweet mushroom baskets from small stump, and check out this funky fungi crop top that comes with its own fungi zine by leah goren [via unruly things].
no vintage shop update this morning, but get ready for a monster belated update later in the week!
and later this week: a new in the bag post, so stay tuned!

saturday afternoon post
i swear i wasn't surfing blogland on a perfectly nice autumn saturday afternoon or anything, but i came across this style of midcentury bedside table twice in one day. i am now on the hunt in real life. a pair of these are exactly what i'm looking for.

i go down to the factory, "you owe me some letters!"
the berlin museum of letters is keeping it real. and if you want to be really real, it's actually buchstabenmuseum. look at their growing collection for more typographic awesomeness of merit. photos by aart van bezooyen.
