product feature: vintage air mail

fresh finds are up in the vintage shop! one of my favorites is this set of vintage air mail envelopes in the original box. these would be charming for invitations (with vintage stamps!) or for every day snail mail. and the packaging is lovely, too.

baby shower for arrow

here are some snaps from abby's baby shower i threw at my place a couple weeks ago. i was excited to help welcome baby arrow (who's due anytime now). what a day!

the weather was beautiful for early october, so we had food, drinks and gifts outside on the patio. we had a potluck, fun decorations and an arrow making activity in lieu of games. guests addressed envelopes (for easy thank you notes after) which were then drawn for little prizes. leftover craspedia in vintage milk glass vases, fantastic cookies by my friend brian for dessert, beautiful joia sodas and cucumber water for thirst quenching, and favors with deluxe chocolate bars and d.i.y memo clips served as a going away treat. i thought it turned out pretty darn cute!

vintage camera collection

a bit of shameless self promotion here, but i was noticing i've amassed a little camera collection in the vintage shop lately. some are retro and funny like the kodak pleaser and colorburst, and some are really cool and antique - i.e. the imperial and beacon. because of this i've added a new shop section to keep them all together.

what do you collect? i've got too many collections to be honest, but lately i've been into bowling trophies and japanese stoneware.

vintage book review | 50s mn tourism booklet

as a collector of vintage books and ephemera, i love old photography and design. case in point, this tourism booklet from the 1950s. touting minnesota as ultimate vacation land, the lithographed book has great style and a little kitsch. because i grew up not far from itasca state park, i especially like the photo of the gang at the headwaters of the mississippi (fourth from the top). and astrology must've been all the rage back then - would the tourism board incorporate that into their vacation brochures today?

speaking of the northcountry - i'm heading up for my 10 year high school class reunion today. has it really been that long? i can't believe it. how about you? did you go to your reunions - high school or otherwise?

1000th post: pinkshirtsandcarwrecks favorites

maybe 1000 posts doesn't sound like many, but it seems like a good milestone to me. instead of carry on as usual today, i did a little blog reflecting and sifted through my archives (going back to 2007). what a trip down memory lane! my style and perspective have definitely changed (or evolved -i hope) over the past four and a half years. a little embarrassing to look back at when i first started (posts are super wonky since the format change, pictures have disappeared, terrible photography, links are dead, etc. etc.) but also fun to see the progress and rediscover some gems. it is so hard to choose but here are a few of the things i like the best from pinkshirtsandcarwrecks history. perhaps you'll find something new to you. thanks for reading my little blog along the way! i can't tell you enough how much i appreciate your support.
